An Opportunity For Teachers

Orion’s Quest has been designed “by teachers, for teachers” with an understanding of student needs, curriculum requirements and the many demands on teachers today. Every aspect of the program has been developed with this in mind.

Professional Staff Development is provided at the beginning of the OQ program, either through the Internet tutorials, on site visits or, if possible, at selected remote sites. Here teachers are introduced to all aspects of the program and an open communication link is established.

Each participating school will be assigned an OQ staff member who will provide continuity and professional support. Whether an educational-question, a technical concern, or an idea of “how to do it better,” we’re just a click away. *

It has been said that education is the only profession where, at the end of the day, the supervisors go home exhausted and the workers go out and play. Well, the OQ Program is designed to put the workers to work. From conducting the experiment to communication requirements, students are responsible for all aspects of program operations. Through the principles of the “Inquiry Method,” hands-on activities and active involvement, students also become responsible for their own learning experience. Teachers are free to teach.

The curriculum package provides everything you will need to provide a successful and meaningful experience for “your kids.” Students will each receive a “Mission Log” CD that contains lesson material and mission memorabilia. You will receive a teachers CD that provides a “how to” guide, the program sequence, activity lesson plans and resource information. It is designed with you in mind. From “preflight to debrief, you decide where it best fits.

And here’s something…Orion’s Quest will not disappear after the programs final “debrief”. It is the OQ philosophy that “once an OQ Teacher, always an OQ Teacher” and a professional relationship with participating teachers will continue as long as the teacher chooses to maintain that relationship. As OQ alumni, teachers will continue to receive program newsletters that will include: a “heads-up” on educational opportunities, teaching tips and what’s happening at NASA.

*This is an education program and, like your students, we are here to learn from you, as well!
